CARLA BOZULICH/EVANGELISTA (US, Constellation)
Carla Bozulich från LA är en av USA:s mest intressanta rockavantgardister – en oförutsägbar konstnär, improvisationsmusiker och multiinstrumentalist med en unik röst.

Carla inledde som 15-åring sin karriär i postpunkbandet Neon Vein och blev sedermera sångerska i det mystiska altcountrybandet Geraldine Fibbers. På senare år har hon turnerat med det löst sammansatta bandet Evangelista, med medlemmar ur bland annat Godspeed You Black Emperor! och gjort en hyllad version av Willie Nelsons Red Headed Stranger där Willie Nelson själv medverkade.

Carlas musik är på samma gång brutalt rå och märkligt visionär. Själv kallar hon den för ”gospelnoice”. Med gothiga underströmmar och raspig, dov röst, vaggar hon in lyssnaren i oanade tillstånd.

“Over the course of the last two decades, Carla Bozulich, mastermind of Evangelista, has established herself as one of the most important figures of the international avant-garde and No Wave scene. Once a member of, among others, The Geraldine Fibbers, Ethyl Meatplow and Scandella, the musician, author and performance artist from LA practises a form of rock deconstruction – with a powerful voice and awe-inspiring intensity, Bozulich moves between melancholy and breakup, rage and vulnerability beyond conventional song structures. “Gospel Noise” is what she herself calls her dense collages of sound that don’t allow for distance”

ALEXANDER CHEN of BOY IN STATIC & THE CONSULATE GENERAL

Alexander Chen is a Taiwanese-American currently living in Gothenburg, Sweden. A multi-instrumentalist who performs live on viola, Chen has released albums under the names Boy in Static and The Consulate General.

Chen´s first demos were discovered by Markus Acher of The Notwist in 2003. The two met at a Notwist show in Boston where they discussed their mutual love of harmoniums and Acher’s newly founded label Alien Transistor. Acher signed Boy In Static and released Newborn in 2004. Chen was later invited on tour supporting 13 & God (The Notwist and Themselves). 2006 saw the release of the shoegaze-influenced album Violet (Mush Records), as well as tours with Freezepop and Lymbyc Systym. Boy in Static expanded to a duo (with Kenji Ross) for third album Candy Cigarette (2009), which included collaborations with Ulrich Schnauss and Her Space Holiday.

In 2010, Chen released “Person Number,” the first album under new alias The Consulate General. Formed from a set of songs written and recorded after relocated to Gothenburg, Sweden, the album featured collaborations with Antoine Bedard (Montag), Simon Scott (Slowdive), and others.

Chen has also shown interactive and sound art in various galleries around the world, including 2002’s Sonata for the Unaware, a piece which generated music from video footage of Philadelphia subway commuters, “finding beauty in maddening situations” (The Guardian).
